| Getting listing in the dmoz directory has never been an easy task for affiliate marketers and home based businesses. Every affiliate marketer who is trying to make money from home is trying to reach top listings in google, many top affiliates believe the dmoz free directory (The Open Directory Project) is a vital point in top SERP results. If you are working from home and provide a unique product, getting listed is easier than you think.
Some people call it ODP (Open Directory Project) - others call it DMOZ as in http://dmoz.org .
Google gives sites listed at DMOZ and/or Yahoo a PageRank (PR) boost. One of my sites used to be PR4. I managed to get it listed in 2 categories at DMOZ and the PR jumped to 6!
QUICK DMOZ TIPS... #1
You don't have to stop when your homepage is listed at DMOZ. If you have other pages optimized for certain keywords, find a category at DMOZ where that page fits well and submit it. DMOZ editors say they prefer to add only homepages, but will add inside pages if they're good & on-topic. The more pages you have listed at DMOZ, the more customers will find your site on all the search engines that use DMOZ data.

Meta tags matter at DMOZ.
DMOZ editors (sometimes) look at them and if you write a good, accurate (keyword rich) description then there's a real chance that it will be used as is. That same keyword rich description shows up on many of the search engines and directories that use DMOZ data.
Don't just load the description with keywords though. Even if the site is accepted, the DMOZ editor will change it to an accurate description - without regard for the keywords you're trying to target.
Getting listed in ODP has many advantages:
- Your website gets linked by ODP, which improves your Google ranking, as the ODP / DMOZ has a high PageRank.
- Because the ODP feeds many other sites and directories, a link from them means you're automatically linked from many other sites.
- It's free. You could try to get a similar PageRank boost by getting/buying a link from another site with PageRank 7 or higher, but getting into DMOZ is cheaper and more effective.
- You submit a site description with your website's address. This description shows up in Google's search results (not always - but often) together with your URL.
- ODP is the biggest human-edited directory on the internet. Volunteers look at your site and include it in the directory only if it doesn't contain "spam," if it's useful, of interest, and on-topic. With all the cheating going on by webmasters trying to get listed in the search engines, a directory edited by humans has a lot of weight.
Unfortunately, so many people are trying to get into the Open Directory Project these days that the volunteers at DMOZ are overwhelmed with site submissions.
I think ODP editors should take more pride in their directory, and the web community they serve.
